About
Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) is a region of particular concern when it comes to loss and damage. It is home to a large number of Indigenous communities and more than 40% of the world's biodiversity. As a result, the region experiences profound and far-reaching non-economic losses, including loss of life, cultural identity, Indigenous and local knowledge, biodiversity and territory. Afro-descendant people living in traditional and rural communities - despite having contributed very little to global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions - are also among those facing the worst impacts of climate change.
At the seminar, Stockholm Environment Institute and Oxfam Sweden will present two new briefs that examine loss and damage finance through the lens of fairness and justice, and propose innovative instruments that could be introduced in Sweden to unlock additional funding for addressing loss and damage.
