Conference of the Parties to the UNECE Convention on the Transboundary Effects of Industrial Accidents
The ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties will take place on 28-30 November 2016 in Ljubljana, Slovenia and will provide an opportunity to review the work under the Convention and to determine future directions and priorities.

Objectives
Key decisions to be taken by the ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties include:
- the possible adoption of guidance on land-use planning, the siting of hazardous activities and related safety aspects
- adoption of a workplan for 2017–2018
- ways of enhancing industrial safety in countries with economies in transition, through targeted activities under the Convention’s Assistance Programme
- development of an implementation guide on the Convention and safety guidelines for fire-water retention
- ways to address accidental water pollution, in particular through risk management at tailings management facilities
- developing a long-term strategy to 2030, including on the opening of the Convention to countries outside the UNECE region.
Further Information
In the framework of the 9th meeting of the Conference of the Parties, a Joint UNECE/OECD Seminar on Fostering implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 for industrial accidents prevention, preparedness and response will also be held. This Seminar is intended for the risk reduction community with regards to the role of industrial accidents prevention, preparedness and response in achieving the global commitments.
