Background
As a foundation to capacity building and disaster risk reduction, the CORE training workshops offer for the first time the opportunity for governments and humanitarian agencies worldwide to agree a consensus to deliver together the same basic introductory technical training. The workshops carry with them the messages of the Camp Co-ordination and Camp Management, Early Recovery, Emergency Shelter, Protection and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Clusters of the global humanitarian coordination body, the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC).
The CORE project was conceived by Shelter Centre, and is supported by an open Advisory Group that includes representatives of regional technical staff from local and national branches of government, including line ministries, emergency response capacities and task forces; national and international NGOs; international organisations; United Nations bodies; donors and other humanitarian actors and academia.
The 5-day CORE Workshops covers
• Assessment and Disaster Cycle
• Humanitarian Principles and Code of Conduct
• Disaster Coordination
• Monitoring and Evaluation
• Disaster Risk Reduction
• Programme Management
• Information Management
• WASH
• Shelter and Settlement
• Early Recovery and Livelihoods
• Supply Chain Management
• Scenario Exercises and Group Work Presentations
