This NIDM technical session is part of the 'International conference on science, spirituality and humanity: Transcending discipline barriers' aiming at fostering productive interdisciplinary interactions among its participants. Despite constraints of working solely within the domain of a discipline and accepting all that one's discipline propounds, scholars in modern times strive to explore avenues that will seamlessly blend work of different disciplines. The conference sets out to provide a unique platform which will constructively bind all disparate thought processes entailed in various disciplines. This intent to facilitate interdisciplinary discussions, comes strongly across the selected sub-themes for the conference.

The NIDM technical session includes:

- Plenary Session on disaster and development: The role of higher education
- Technical Session I: Natural disasters and risk reduction
- Technical Session II: Climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction
