Dodhar - The Dilemma: film screening and discussion with the research team
Dōdhār (The Dilemma), a SNIS produced research documentary, addresses the issue of men moving away from Nepali villages in search for work, leaving behind their mothers, wives and daughters who struggle in their daily life to adapt to changing environmental conditions. Filmed in late 2014, the documentary is based on the SNIS project “Sustainable Land Management in Mountain Regions of Bolivia and Nepal in the Context of Outmigration, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction" (University of Lausanne; Centre for Development and Environment, University of Bern).
Outmigration is not new in rural Nepal, but recently villages have seen all their working men leave their families for years on end. “The dilemma” explores outmigration, feminisation and land management in mountainous rural villages in western Nepal.
