Abstract

WMO has recently published a new volume of guidance on impact-based forecasting and warning services, building on the influential guidelines originally published in 2015 . Will Lang leads the WMO Expert Team which developed this additional guidance, and manages the UK Met Office’s weather warning service. In this presentation he will explore several key aspects of the guidance, using the February 2022 storms across Northern Europe as an example, with a particular focus on the importance of partnerships, early action and effective risk communication in warning for severe weather.
