Webinar: Outcomes of the Belt and Road Ministerial Forum for International Cooperation in Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Management
Objective
This event, co-organized by China’s Ministry of Emergency Management and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (Ä¢¹½´«Ã½), aims to increase awareness of the outcomes of the Forum and their implications for facilitating cooperation around disaster risk reduction.
Background
As one of the most ambitious infrastructure and investment plans ever conceived, the Belt and Road Initiative holds the potential to improve many lives for the better. More specifically, it represents a historic opportunity to generate the political and financial commitments needed to elevate and integrate disaster risk reduction (DRR) and resilience building into standard investment and business practices.
This commitment to DRR and the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction was on full display at the Belt and Road Ministerial Forum for International Cooperation in Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Management, which was held virtually on 3 November 2021 and organized by the Ministry of Emergency Management of the People’s Republic of China.
The Forum hosted the leaders of emergency management of 19 countries and eight UN agencies, international and regional organizations. Moreover, the Forum saw the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and the launch of the Belt and Road International Cooperation Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Management.
