CIMA Research Foundation at National Civil Protection Week
CIMA Research Foundation partners with the Italian Civil Protection Department for the National Civil Protection Week, taking place during October 13-19. The week will be an opportunity to share risk reduction knowledge and experiences among experts, citizens and policy-makers and will align to the UN International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, which this year will focus on Target (d) of the Sendai Framework: to reduce disaster damage to critical infrastructure and disruption of basic services.
As a Competence Centre of the Italian Civil Protection Department, CIMA Research Foundation will be focusing on the role of scientific knowledge to create risk awareness, policy making and self-protection behaviours. Activities will include:
I do not take risks campaign (October 12-13)
The ninth edition of the national campaign I do not risks will take place on the weekend of October 12-13. The campaign is dedicated to create citizen awareness on natural hazards (floods, tsunamis, earthquakes) and self-protective behaviours. This year, informative stands and civil protection volunteers will be present in over 850 places across the country.
Civil Protection Party (October 12)
Promoted by the Liguria Region, the event will happen in Genoa and it will see the participation of Civil Protection experts and academia. CIMA Research Foundation will be interacting with students on the theme of science in civil protection, with a focus on forest fires.
National roundtable "Science in civil protection"
The topic of scientific knowledge as a crucial support and base for an efficient civil protection will be explored during a national event which will take place in Rome on Monday, 14, in presence of the Minister of Education, University and Research, Prof. Lorenzo Fioramonti. The directors of the Civil Protection Competence Centres will meet at a round table and will convene in a final declaration.
The national event will be followed by local events organised by the Competence Centres. In accordance with its vision, included in the key words "science, awareness, behaviours", CIMA Research Foundation will be presenting its research activities during a dedicated seminar on its headquarters at the University Campus of Savona, on October 16.
CIMA Research Foundation researchers will explain the mechanisms influencing hydro-meteorological events, highlighting their risks and how forecasting and prevention activities have changed over time.
