Abuja - The non-governmental organization Community Emergency Response Initiative (CERI), has urged the three tiers of the Nigerian government to adopt more proactive strategies in disaster management in the country, reports the Nigerian Tribune. Mr. Benson Attah, the Executive Director of CERI, said that governments at all levels should address risk reduction challenges in their various domains, through the integration of climate change adaptation in their development plans.
“We have to view disaster as part of our regular existence not as an external threat,” Mr. Attah emphasized.
Furthermore, the Nigerian Tribune highlights Mr. Attah’s comments on the 2012 United Nations World Disaster Reduction Day's theme of “Women and Girls" the [in]Visible Force of Resilience,” saying that “It is a known fact that we have not appreciated the efforts of our women and girls towards making our nation resilient.”
