Reaching the outer islands in Tuvalu can be a logistical challenge, so getting disaster preparedness and response messages to the residents has sometimes proven tricky. 

Talafou Esekia, now a Tuvalu Broadcasting Corporation board member, has experience in getting information about the outer islands.  

Mr Esekia says that while working for the Tuvalu disaster department, they would make regular trips to run training on disaster preparedness and deliver desalinators. 

“Especially on the northern island, when there was a drought, they were badly affected by the drought at that time,” Mr Esekia said.
