The important effects that have affected Pakistan after the floods show that the country needs a disaster risk reduction strategy reports Chris Tidey, communications specialist for emergencies at UNICEF, for the Guardian. This type of strategy would include the relocation of communities away from flood-prone areas, construction of drainage systems and ensuring sources of clean water are not contaminated by flood water.
