Philippines: Aquino seeks P39-B calamity fund

President Aquino is proposing a calamity fund of almost P39 billion for next year, according to The Philippine Star. The amount is included in the proposed P3.002-trillion 2016 national budget.

The calamity fund, which has been renamed the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (NDRRMF), has three components: P19 billion “for rehabilitation, relief and other calamity-related services,” P18.9 billion for the Yolanda Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Recovery Plan and P1 billion for the People’s Survival Fund.
