Philippines: NDRRMC enlists help of regions in crafting disaster framework
Iloilo City – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) is enlisting the help of regional councils in crafting an efficient and effective national disaster risk reduction and management framework.
Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Civil Defense Executive Officer Ronald I. Flores said they hope to get as many inputs as possible from the regional councils for a framework that would enhance the country’s capability to reduce risks from disasters in addition to the response framework already in place.
Speaking during the regional consultation workshop for Western Visayas held February 21 in Iloilo City, Flores said they hope to achieve this in a series of regional consultation workshops that they are conducting nationwide.
The contributions of the councils and their members are so important, said Flores. The workshop series brings together the members of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
The OCD official said the framework would be used later as a guide in the formulation of a national action plan pursuant to the implementation of the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act, otherwise known as Republic Act No. 10121.
The activity here was so far the third regional consultation workshop conducted in the country. Also present at the workshop were OCD Regional Director and RDRRMC chair Rosario Cabrera and Council vice chairpersons DOST Regional Director Engr. Rowen Gelonga, NEDA Regional Director Ro-Ann Bacal and DSWD Regional Director Minda Brigoli.
