Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The United Nation-World Food Program (UN-WFP) has poured P1.23 million for Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Climate Change Adaptation (DRRM/CCA) activities in six secondary schools in Cagayan’s coastal towns.

Perla Visorro, president and CEO of the Cagayan Valley Partners in People Development (CAVAPPED) and the project’s implementing non-government agency, identified the schools as Bukig Vocational and Industrial School and Aparri West National High School in Aparri town; Ballesteros National High School; Pamplona National High School of Fisheries; and the Sta. Teresita National High School and Luga National High School in Ballesteros town.

“We want to foster and raise awareness, knowledge and skills in disaster preparedness and facilitate local communities to become disaster resilient,” she said.

She said the project also aims to establish a Knowledge Management Center with STARBooks or the Science and Technology Academic Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station. The station contains thousands of digitized science and technology resources in various formats placed in specially designed “pods” set in user-friendly interface.(ALM/GVB/PIA-2 Cagayan)
