San Mateo, Rizal -  All the members of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) in this municipality gathered on Friday, April 15, for a one-day seminar on disaster preparedness organized by Yes Pinoy Foundation (YPF) to equip the youth with skills in disaster rescue and response.

“The concept is to train the youth in the different aspects of disaster risk reduction and to re-echo the learning to students in the different schools.” said Arturo Tahup, YPF program and advocacy director.

Prior to the seminar, Raiza Laurel, YPF disaster preparedness advocate led the participants in distributing posters on Earthquake tips provided by the Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (Philvocs). The posters were distributed to the residents of Bo. Sta. Ana, a barangay near the West Valley Fault. She also presented a 3 x 8 tarpaulin with satellite photo indicating the West Valley Fault to the head of the community-based rescue group.

The one-day seminar-workshop was capped by an earthquake drill participated by the youth participants and the barangay residents. (PIA-Calabarzon)
