USA: Nuclear emergency planning overhaul draws fire

Critics of the American nuclear industry, such as Greenpeace and Union of Concerned Scientists are worried that the new preparedness requirements are not strong enough. New rules were adopted by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) last August, writes The Gazette.

'Although there are likely to be lessons learned from Japan that will apply to emergency preparedness, I do not think that we need to wait to implement the many enhancements that this rule will provide,' said ex-NRC Chairman Gregory Jaczko.
