According to Philippine Information Agency, Makati is being considered as a 'disaster risk reduction champion' next to two cities by the World Bank-funded Global Facility for Disaster Risk Reduction (GFDRR).

“This is a very significant event in the histories of our cities since we will be sharing the best practices we have with each other, in our quest for better solutions, programs and action plans that will strengthen our defenses against disasters,” said Mayor Jejomar Erwin S. Binay.

A sharing initiative is currently taking place in Quito. The organizers see Makati, Kathmandu, and Quito are envisioned to “serve as champions and international and regional resource centers for other cities which will share the knowledge learned from the exercise.”
