Association of ambient temperatures with suicide attempts and violence with the future projections under climate change scenarios: a nationwide time-stratified case-crossover study in South Korea
This study examines the impact of rising temperatures on suicide attempts and violent incidents in South Korea. Using hospital discharge data from 2005 to 2019, researchers analyzed the relationship between ambient temperatures and intentional injuries. They also projected future risks under climate change scenarios.
The findings show that higher temperatures are linked to increased suicide attempts and violence. Suicide risk was highest at moderate temperatures, while violence increased more linearly. Future projections suggest these risks will rise, especially under severe climate scenarios, highlighting the need for preventive policies.
