Atlas of house vulnerability and strenghtening, Vietnam
This publication is a guide to help people with technical solutions to address the vulnerability of their homes and other buildings in the face of identified hazards. It is the result of DWF (Development Workshop France)'s twenty years' experience working with Vietnamese communities to reduce the vulnerability of housing and public buildings, both existing and new, in a region regularly hit by floods, typhoons, whirlwinds and other disaster events.
These guidelines are based on generic principles of safe construction to reduce building vulnerability. Same approach have successfully applied in other countries including Indonesia, Myanmar and Haiti in recent years, to address various hazards in those countries and local building traditions and techniques.
This publication has been prepared by DWF as an activity of the JANI project (Joint Advocacy Network Initiative) funded by the European Union Office for Humanitarian & Civil Protection Operations (ECHO) – Programme DIPECHO.
