Considerations for the development of multi-country geologic hazard scenarios
This document highlights the importance of multi-country scenarios, distinguishes them from single-country scenario development, and shares key lessons from cross-border scenarios and multi-country disaster events. It also outlines considerations for developing multi-country scenarios, which are widely used to prepare for and mitigate risks from natural hazards. Due to the limited availability of past cross-border scenarios to draw from, the focus is on sharing considerations rather than providing specific guidance, while identifying future work needed to promote their use.
These considerations complement the guidance on geologic hazard scenario development in Advancing Scenario Practice to Build Resilience to Geologic Hazards and are more preparedness-oriented, given the greater opportunities for cross-border collaboration in disaster preparedness. The intended audience includes practitioners and researchers focusing on national or international emergency preparedness and disaster risk management.
