Convention concerning the protection of the world cultural and natural heritage: World Heritage Committee, thirty-first session
This document presents the decisions adopted by the World Heritage Committee at its 31st session in Christchurch, New Zealand, on 23 June – 2 July 2007 . It contains a revised version of the “Strategy for Reducing Risks at World Heritage Properties”, that was presented in its original version in Document WHC-06/30.COM/7.2, with a prioritised list of actions and information on other related activities carried out by the World Heritage Centre and Advisory Bodies since July 2006.
The document addresses the need to strengthen the protection of World Heritage and contributes to sustainable development by assisting States Parties to the Convention to integrate heritage concerns into national disaster reduction policies and to incorporate concern for disaster reduction within management plans and systems for World Heritage properties in their territories.
The document also provides guidance to States Parties, the World Heritage Committee, the World Heritage Centre, and the Advisory Bodies to integrate disaster risk reduction into World Heritage strategic planning and management, including the allocation and use of Emergency Assistance under the World Heritage Fund.
