DG JRC supports the response to natural and man-made hazards
This document explains the efforts that the Directorate-General Joint Research Centre (DG JRC) are taking towards reducing disaster risk through satellite technologies. The DG JRC is maximising the potential of satellite-borne sensing technologies to collect information, quantify risks, and disseminate warnings to mitigate both weather-driven and man-made disasters. This helps to reduce the risks to populations and ecosystems from floods, forest fires, landslides, earthquakes, and tsunami. Similar mapping technologies are used to assist reconstruction projects in Afghanistan and to monitor man-made hazards such as marine oil discharge.
