Disaster resilience assessment of the city of Venice
This report presents the findings of a comprehensive assessment of Venice’s cultural heritage resilience, conducted during a workshop held in July 2024. Organized by the Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF) in collaboration with Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia and CORILA (Consorzio per il coordinamento delle ricerche inerenti al sistema lagunare di Venezia), the assessment utilized the MCR2030 Disaster Resilience Scorecard for Cities: Cultural Heritage Addendum to evaluate the city’s preparedness for natural and human-induced hazards.
The findings highlight critical gaps in risk management, the need for improved data collection, and the importance of integrating cultural heritage into broader disaster risk reduction (DRR) strategies. The report offers key recommendations, including enhanced stakeholder collaboration, tailored emergency response plans, and increased investment in preventive measures. Endorsed by the Venice Municipality, this report serves as a valuable reference for cities worldwide seeking to strengthen the resilience of their cultural heritage. A follow-up consultation will be conducted to further exchange lessons learned and advance best practices in safeguarding cultural heritage from disaster risks.
