Disaster risk awareness and preparedness of the EU population: Denmark
The Denmark report identifies cybersecurity threats, extreme weather events, and floods as the top concerns, with cybersecurity threats receiving significantly more attention than in other EU countries. Danish citizens exhibit greater knowledge, accessibility, and trust in risk information compared to other EU residents. However, aside from having flashlights or candles accessible, they have taken fewer measures to prepare for disaster risks, primarily relying on formal sources, particularly local media. When seeking information, they prefer formal and authoritative agencies. Overall, while they are generally aware and optimistic about risk preparedness, there is a pressing need for more information.
This serial survey assesses the awareness of EU citizens about the disaster risks that could affect them, their preparedness to face various disaster risk scenarios, and the reliance they place on a range of actors in disaster situations. The survey also explores the engagement of EU citizens in voluntary work to increase disaster resilience.
