Disaster risk awareness and preparedness of the EU population: Slovakia
This survey on disaster risk awareness and preparedness in Slovakia shows that citizens feel most vulnerable to extreme weather events (42%), followed by health emergencies (24%) and floods (24%). Slovakians exhibit high disaster risk awareness and generally trust public authorities for information, primarily relying on local or national media, family and friends, and emergency services. Slovakians have also taken more preparedness measures than other Europeans across most types and show significantly higher trust in public authorities.
This serial survey assesses the awareness of EU citizens about the disaster risks that could affect them, their preparedness to face various disaster risk scenarios, and the reliance they place on a range of actors in disaster situations. The survey also explores the engagement of EU citizens in voluntary work to increase disaster resilience.
