DRMKC Newsletter No. 1, January 2016
This first issue presents the Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Center (DRMKC), its objectives and roles, and the benefits for the disaster management community. It also includes information on the current DRMKC activities and upcoming related events.
The DRMKC is part of a new European Commission initiative on better knowledge and competence management for sounder EU policy making. It contributes to the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) legislation, whose priorities include the action to 'improve the knowledge base on disaster risks and facilitate the sharing of knowledge, best practices and information'. Through the Knowledge Centre, the EU will support the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction to promote a more systematic and reinforced science-policy interface.
The Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Centre (DRMKC) is a European Commission initiative to improve and deepen the communication between policy makers and scientists in the field of disaster risk management.
