Disaster risk reduction: joining the dots
This paper is the third in a series providing an introduction to key discussions around disaster risk reduction (DRR) towards the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in May 2013 providing an introduction to key discussions around DRR. It explores how disaster risk reduction fits with other development concerns including climate change adaption, poverty reduction, and resilience.
It highlights the importance of coordinated efforts in DRR, and suggests ways of coordinating DRR programs across sectors and regions. The paper includes a case study which investigates the effects of climate change on pastoral communities in Kenya. It also presents some key messages and further readings.
