Environment, climate change and migration: IOM’s approach and activities
This information sheet summarizes IOM’s approach to managing environmental migration and provides an overview of IOM’s principal operational, policy and research activities undertaken to respond to the challenges posed by climate change, the related exacerbation of sudden- and slow-onset disasters and gradual environmental degradation, and its impact on human mobility. It is intended to help reduce the vulnerability of populations exposed to environmental risk factors, assist populations on the move as a result of disasters and environmental change, and build the capacities of governments and other actors to face the challenge of environmental migration.
