This training module links disaster mitigation with development plans, promoting the application of effective communication systems and information technology, insurance, extensive public awareness and education campaigns (particularly in rural areas), as part of India's committment for achieving the goals and objectives of the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction, the Hyogo framework of Action 2005 and the National Act of disaster Management 2005.

The training module is comprised of four sessions: (i) development and disaster; (ii) disaster management: meaning and concepts; (iii) perception of disaster risk; (iv) disaster management system in India; and (v) tools and techniques of hazard, risk and vulnerability (HRV) assessment.
