This publication is the final report of the High-level symposium on disaster risk reduction (DDR), which had three objectives: (i) to raise awareness among key decision-makers of Nepal’s vulnerability to a catastrophic earthquake; (ii) to demonstrate the commitment of the government and the international community to disaster risk reduction; and (iii) to take lessons from recent disasters (Pakistan in 2005, Haiti in January 2010, and Christchurch, New Zealand, in September 2010) into policy and planning in Nepal.
