Improved community flood resilience: Senegal impact brief
This report intends to share knowledge and experience of Practical Action of what works with communities, practitioners, and decision-makers with regard to flood resilience in Senegal. Flooding is a recurrent and escalating issue in Senegal, significantly affecting urban and rural communities, particularly during the rainy season from June to October. The increasing frequency and severity of these floods are attributed to a combination of climatic, environmental, and infrastructural factors.
Based on data and experience working with vulnerable communities over the past three years, building flood resilience is about more than just protecting communities from flooding: it's about reducing the risk of exposure to floods, preparing for future floods, and being able to respond to and recover from floods quickly. Increasing flood resilience requires an approach that enhances the social, human, natural, financial, and physical capacities of communities.
