Improving construction sector resilience
Improving the resilience of the construction sector helps countries recover quicker from crises and can assist with improving community resilience and recovery. This study aims to explore ways in which the construction sector might improve its resilience.
Suggestions for improving resilience of the construction sector are:
- improve the education of the pivotal role of the construction sector in recovery and reconstruction at multi-governmental and international levels;
- improve the training for disasters for the construction sector, especially in relation to their essential role in recovery and reconstruction;
- develop and promote a resilience of organisations management tool targeted at the construction sector organisations, both large and SME’s, to allow the sector to benchmark their resilience;
- encourage strong leadership, partnerships and collaboration within the sector and across sector and government boundaries;
- encourage the construction sector to be more adaptable to change; and
- disseminate the understanding and management of the changes the construction sector will face post-disaster.
