Local resilience agents
This report explores the local resilience agents (LRAs) approach implemented by Practical Action in Bangladesh. Through the Village Education Resource Center, Practical Action has been working in Bangladesh to supplement the capacity of local governments to reduce the risks of flooding through training local resilience agents on flood preparedness, livelihood protection, response, and recovery.
LRAs are trained in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and preparedness, and educated on the institutional framework under which the local government operates disaster risk DRR and response. LRAs are involved in supplementing the limited capacity of the local Union disaster management committees (UDMCs) in these activities. They maintain strong relationships with both local communities and the local government and support the latter in relief distribution, beneficiary list preparation for relief, and other resource distribution.
