This document reports on a workshop aimed at discussing the challenges and ways to improve the existing disaster response in the light of the upcoming European Parliament’s resolution on the Communication and Commission’s legislative proposals in the field of civil protection, including prevention and mitigation of disasters. It addresses the need to build a stronger, more comprehensive, better coordinated and more efficient disaster response capacity which includes prevention and preparedness in the European Union.

The report contains an overview of the speeches and the discussion that took place at the Workshop on European Disaster Response held the 15th of June of 2011 at the European Parliament in Brussels.
