Rio+20: making a better world for children
This paper raises disaster risk reduction among the vitally important issues to allowing children everywhere to survive and thrive. It calls for the UK Government to advocate for special attention to be given to children in the sustainability plans of all seven key themes at the Rio+20 Earth Summit in June 2012 - including water, food security, urbanisation and disaster risk reduction - using an example of water and disaster risk reduction in Madagascar to illustrate child-centred sustainability in practice.
