State of the Climate 2012
The primary goals of this report are to place the weather and climate events of the year into accurate historical perspective, and to provide information on the state, trends, and variability of the climate system’s many variables and phenomena.
The report is comprised of seven sections: (i) section one introduces the report as the 23rd edition of the annual State of the Climate series; (ii) section two presents an overview of the current global climate and provides visual representations of global temperatures; (iii) section three reviews global oceans and demonstrates the sea surface temperature anomalies present across oceans in 2012; (iv) section four discusses climate in the tropics, highlighting Atlantic cyclones like hurricane Sandy; (V) section five examines the climate of the Arctic and the cryosphere; (vi) section six examines the climate of the Antarctic and the uses of ice borehole thermometry in climate assessment; (vii) and section seven discusses regional climates, examining the Americas, Africa, Europe and the Middle East, Asia, and Oceania.
