Story of a resilient community in Cementera: reducing risk by acting together - Case study
This paper draws lessons from the community managed disaster risk reduction (CMDRR) process conducted in the municipality of Lepaera, Honduras, within a community suffering from storms, heavy rains and landslides. It highlights the increased: (i) used of modern technologies by youth; (ii) participation of women; and (iii) involvement of leaders of the emergency committee to increase their network and their capacity to involve other actors in risk reducing strategies. This is a good example of the facilitating and intermediating role a development organization can play between local villagers and their government during the CMDRR process.
