Strategy and guidelines for integrating climate change adaptation approaches in trans-boundary ecosystem management in East Africa
This policy brief is based on a case study, “IUCN/USAID implementing a resilience framework to support climate change adaptation in the Mt Elgon region of Lake Victoria Basin in Kenya and Uganda”.
The study analyzed regional and national policies and strategies in environment and natural resources management and identified challenges, opportunities and actions required to integrate climate change adaptation approaches into trans-boundary ecosystem management in East Africa.
Recommendations for the East Africa Community include:
- Develop approaches and guidelines for mainstreaming climate change adaptation at regional level in the management of trans-boundary ecosystems.
- Build capacity at regional level for integrated trans-boundary ecosystem management.
- Support countries to undertake risk assessment across various sectors to help develop strategies to reduce and prevent climate change related disasters.
