Tsunami risk management in the context of the Pacific Islands

This note: (i) acknowledges the impacts and characteristics of recent damaging tsunamis (with a particular focus on Pacific and PICT events); (ii) outlines what we understand the ‘tsunami risk management framework’ to involve; (iii) outlines the challenges in identifying, assessing and monitoring tsunami risk (using the risk management framework identified as a guide); (iv) considers the variety of approaches and methods for prevention and mitigation of tsunami disasters; and (v) identifies good practice cases and makes a series of recommendations to move tsunami risk management forward.
