The Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (SEADPRI-UKM), was established to carry out research and provide advice in disaster-related fields, especially in the Southeast Asia region. This is done by providing a new technological platform for cross-, multi-, and inter-disciplinary research in understanding and solving problems about disasters. Research conducted in SEADPRI contributes to the development of a new system and technology to deepen knowledge about processes related to disasters.
The objectives of SEADPRI are:
- To become a research centre focused on climatic, geological, and technological hazards at the national level and in the Asia region
- To become a multidisciplinary research centre in disaster management, especially in the contexts of disasters, governance and prevention as well as post-disaster response
- To develop skilled human capital in disaster issues for the government and private sector through graduate programmes, especially in regards to the scientific, technological, social and governance aspects of disasters.
- To become the reference centre on disaster science and governance in Southeast Asia. SEADPRI presently offers graduate research programmes at Masters and PhD levels, which involve studies relating to disasters in the following areas:
- Policy and disaster management
- Climatic hazards
- Geological hazards
- Technological hazards

Curriculum structure for Masters and PhD candidates:
- Research and thesis only
- All candidates are required to attend SFTH6014 (research methodology course)
Language requirement
All international candidates: TOEFL (minimum score of 500) or IELTS (minimum band 5)
- Masters in an area of relevance from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia or other universities accredited by the Senate, OR
- Presently in a Masters programme in a related field at UKM and approved by the Graduate Management Committee to change the status to the Doctor of Philosophy programme with the approval of the UKM Senate

The required documents should be submitted in duplicate.
The application fee is RM20.00 for Malaysia (USD30 for international applicants) or RM100.00 for non-Malaysian students.
