The Institute of Earth and Environmental Sciences conducts research on topics on the earth and it's environment around the globe, using a broad range of techniques from the natural sciences complemented with interdisciplinary networks.
In the Masters and Bachelors study programs in Geoecology and Earth Sciences, we teach how to use natural sciences as a basis for solving current, societally relevant environmental problems as well as for conducting independent earth and environmental research. Therefore, our curriculum offers a wide spectrum of methods and research topics drawn from the different research groups within the institute, as well as a range of international study programs, and an excellent graduate school.
The institute occupies a central position in the focus area Earth Sciences and Integrated Earth System Analysis and is an active partner in the Geo.X coordinating platform, in which the Earth and Enviromental Science research institutes in the Berlin-Potsdam area are tightly networked.
The institut hosts the IUGS (R.Oberhänsli) and GeoUnion (M.Strecker) presidents.
allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
