ICARDA's mission is to improve the welfare of poor people and alleviate poverty through research and training in dry areas of the developing world, by increasing the production, productivity and nutritional quality of food, while preserving and enhancing the natural resource base.

The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.

Climate change threatens the viability of agriculture, ecosystems, and rural livelihoods in the Middle East and North Africa, possibly triggering climate displacements. A new resilience strategy by ICARDA and CGIAR gives rural people the chance to stay put and build productive lives or to receive assistance to leave climate-vulnerable areas.
Non-GM molecular breeding techniques have allowed scientists to develop heat-tolerant durum wheat that can withstand up to 40°C heat. This could help fight hunger as well as assist farmers in adapting to rising temperatures. The wheat grows fast, allowing it to be grown in the period between rice cultivation.
