The Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD), established in 1975 by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the African Union (AU), serves 20 member states in Eastern and Southern Africa. Its vision is to be a leading provider of geo-information and related technologies for sustainable development. RCMRD's mission involves enhancing member states' and stakeholders' capacity through the generation, application, and dissemination of geo-information. Their approach focuses on sustainable applications in natural resource management, infrastructure, and environmental management using Geo-Information Technologies. RCMRD's core mission revolves around leveraging geospatial technologies to address global challenges such as agriculture, food security, weather and climate change impacts, ecosystems management, land use mapping, water resources, hydro-climatic disasters, and disaster risk reduction.
The Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) was established in 1975 under the auspices of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the African Union (AU). It is an inter-governmental organisation and currently has 20 contracting Member States in the Eastern and Southern Africa region namely: Botswana, Burundi, Comoros, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
