The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.

A new study of Virginia’s barrier islands off the coast of the Eastern Shore illustrates how barrier islands will change in the near future amid a warming climate, sea-level rise and storm events. The study finds that sediment movement from upland to marsh is being stymied by an expansion of woody vegetation brought about by a warming winter climate.
