Disaster risk awareness and preparedness of the EU population: Lithuania
The survey on disaster risk awareness in Lithuania shows that citizens feel most vulnerable to extreme weather (29%), cybersecurity threats (24%), and public health emergencies (21%). Lithuanians demonstrate exceptionally high levels of disaster awareness and preparedness compared to other EU countries, with a solid foundation of knowledge and readiness. However, their primary sources of information-national media, social media, and personal networks-rely on less formal channels. To build on this strength, public authorities could further enhance disaster preparedness by standardizing information channels, ensuring citizens receive clear and reliable guidance.
This serial survey assesses the awareness of EU citizens about the disaster risks that could affect them, their preparedness to face various disaster risk scenarios, and the reliance they place on a range of actors in disaster situations. The survey also explores the engagement of EU citizens in voluntary work to increase disaster resilience.
