Global insurance industry statement
Building climate and disaster-resilient communities and economies - How the insurance industry and governments can work together more effectively:
A joint statement which sets out a number of key areas of action that insurers have agreed to take forward and recommendations for the wider multilateral community to come together as leaders in global risk management and issue a collective call to action in order to proactively address climate threats and build societal resilience along the insurance risk management value chain: (i) risk identification and analysis; (ii) risk prevention and risk reduction; and (iii) risk transfer.
This statement was developed by ClimateWise, in partnership with The Munich Climate Insurance Initiative (MCII) and The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), together representing a significant proportion of the industry, and first presented for discussion at the Caring for Climate Business Forum at the UNFCCC COP in Warsaw Poland on 19th November.
