Improving the safety of industrial tailings management facilities based on the example of Ukrainian facilities
The aim of the project was to over-come the problems in the implementation of the UNECE Safety Guidelines and Good Practices for tailings management facilities and to thus permanently reduce the risk posed by these facilities.
The main project tasks, declared in the project concept were:
- to assess the degree of the compliance of Ukrainian legislation and the realization by administrative agencies with requirements of "Safety Guidelines and Good Practices for Tailings Management Facilities", developed by the UNECE;
- to develop the checklist for examinations of the technical safety of specific Tailing Management Facilities;
- to develop technical measures for implementing European standards for the safe operation of Tailings Management Facilities in Ukraine.
