Since its founding in 1974, the German Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt – UBA) has been Germany’s main environmental protection agency. The Agency's overarching mission is early detection of environmental risks and threats so that we can assess them and find viable solutions for them in a timely manner. The Agency does this by conducting research in our own labs and by outsourcing research to scientific institutions in German and abroad. The Agency is also the German point of contact for numerous international organizations such as WHO.

The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
