This scientific report presents the results of the representative „Municipal Survey on Climate Change Adaptation 2023” and provides a comprehensive and differentiated picture of the current status and progress of municipal climate adaptation in Germany.

Against the background of the Federal Climate Change Adaptation Act (KAnG), the survey results show that many municipalities have already started to prepare for the consequences of climate change. However, the results also reveal numerous challenges and that further steps are required in municipalities for comprehensive and systematic risk assessment and action planning. As a rich source of knowledge, the report is of value for the further development and implementation of climate adaptation strategies and measures at various administrative levels and serves as a starting point for further research.
